Genuine Zexel seal
Fits all Mitsubishi 2.8 & 2.5 diesel engines
These pump seals are discussed regularly in pajero forum sites, every diesel pajero will need this seal replacing at some point in it’s life
Symptoms are:
- The engine cuts out soon after starting but will restart after much turning over. Strangely it may stall at the identical distance each time. Annoyingly it will be at a road junction as you slow down. It may drive normally for the rest of the journey. But it will get progressively harder to start.
- Diesel will pass the seal and enter the sump and the oil level may rise and increased wear to engine and turbo will occur. Your mechanic would probably suspect you have overfilled it.
- 3. Engine oil will get into the diesel tank and the fuel filter pump will show blackened fuel when you change the filter.
- 4. Fuel economy will deteriorate
- 5. It may lose power when under load or accelerating
Some try to mask this problem by fitting an electrical pump inline however mitsubishi fuel pumps function by using a vacuum to lift the fuel, they don’t use a pump to push fuel for good reasons although an electrical pump may appear to solve the problem, diesel will continue to seep into the engine oil causing rapid wear of the engine. Dirty engine oil will continue to get into the fuel tank affecting the fuel pump and injectors. The electrical pump will continue to gush diesel as long as the ignition is on so in an accident if a pipe leaks fuel will continue to pump until the tank is empty.
It could make your insurance null and void if your insurance company was looking for a reason to avoid paying out. Insurance investigators could pick this up as an undeclared modification.
These seals will not be affected by the vegetable oils or chip oil that some use for economy.
